Twilight Storm - 2004

Twilight Storm

Because the Superstition Mountains are just East of Phoenix, it is probably the most visited wilderness in Arizona. With an elevation range of 2000 to 6000 feet, it is also one of the most rugged. The west starts out with typical Sonoran landmarks of saguaros and other cactus then climbs to the east into a coniferous forest.

On this trip, we were traveling along the Apache Trail trying to stay ahead of a summer monsoon and we reached this spot at sunset. After the sun went down, the small clouds turned pink, decorating the dark storm looming in the background.
