Mad Saguaro - 2004

Mad Saguaro

No, an angry bovine didn’t bite this saguaro that I found in the Superstition Wilderness. It just happens to be standing in the wrong place. Saguaro’s are only found in the Sonoran deserts of Arizona and northern Mexico and extend only to the frost line. When subjected to freezing as this one has, the internal structure is damaged and the arms become distorted and grow in unusual directions. The new growth shows that this guy is doing well and will be around for some time to come.
