Old Ponderosa - 2006

Old Ponderosa

This majestic old ponderosa stands at the edge of the Kaibab Plateau. Its branches are so long they bend to the ground under their own weight. So far it’s survived lightning, fire and freezing cold. This year at least, it also missed being marked for harvesting as a great deal of the other trees around it have.

In 2007 we revisited this area and found this tree destroyed by lightning. All that remained upright was a lower stump with the rest of the grand old tree laying on the ground. I guess this shows how tenuous life is.
