Coal Mine Plateau is about 20 miles south of Tuba City, Arizona. At its edge are marvelous hoodoo formations where the sandstone and thin layer of coal have eroded away. This shot, taken after the sun dropped below the horizon, shows the white layer of Chinle shale already streaked with erosion.
