You go through Lindis Pass when you travel between Queenstown and Mount Cook. As it is in the rain shadow of the Southern Alps, it doesn’t get as much rain as either the east or west coasts of the Southern Island. Relatively dry, the area looks like the high deserts of eastern California and Nevada.
