Traces of ancient cultures can be found throughout Arizona. They may be ruins, artifacts or an early form of graffiti etched into rocks. A good place to look for rock art is along lava flows where the rocks are black. This example is probably from the Hohokum people who lived in southern Arizona hundreds of years ago and mysteriously disappeared during the last couple of centuries.
Although legally protected, sites like these are constantly being pilfered and vandalized. If you stumble across one, please only take photographs so that they can be rediscovered by future generations.
